Pick the reference before calculating
The adult DRI table lists a protein reference rate of 0.8 grams per kilogram per day. Its published daily allowances use reference body weight. Multiplying the rate by your entered weight illustrates the conversion; it does not establish your personal RDA or an optimal intake. This tool starts with that reference rate and lets you enter another rate.
Check the unit conversion
Enter weight in kilograms, or let the tool convert pounds to kilograms before it multiplies. At 70 kg, 0.8 grams per kilogram gives 56 grams per day. This example shows arithmetic, not a recommendation for a person who weighs 70 kg. The result changes when the weight or selected reference changes. A saved result includes both values so you can reproduce the conversion.
Understand a custom rate
Different references can apply to different populations. A custom rate is supplied by you, not selected or endorsed by this calculator. Keep that distinction with the result. The site does not choose a sports nutrition target or predict the effect of protein intake. Its input cap is a practical interface boundary, not a safe upper intake.
Use the result in context
This page does not assess kidney disease, pregnancy, or other conditions that can change nutrition needs. It does not evaluate food quality or whether total energy intake is adequate. If you need a diet plan for a health condition, use a qualified clinician or dietitian. Common questions
Why can I change the protein rate?
This is a rate converter. The default is a named adult reference rate; a custom value is labeled as entered by you.
Does more protein always improve results?
No. This calculator only converts a reference value using body weight. It does not predict an outcome.
Can I use lean mass instead of body weight?
Only if a reviewed reference uses lean mass. The cited adult RDA and athlete range use body weight.
